Just What Is Praise and Worship Music?
The Simple Definition of Praise and Worship Music
Praise and Worship Music is a kind of "churchy" term for the music that we sing in order to send prayer to God wrapped in emotion. It's much like sending a love song, pouring out affection, to that special someone, or sending a heartfelt cry for help, wrapped in gently weeping chords, to anyone who will listen. It is such a joy to know that God hears us, and we join with the thousands of generations before us that have lifted prayers to the Lord in song!
"Sing to the Lord a new song;
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, bless His name"
- Psalm 96:1-2
What does that Look Like at KRCC?
The musical style at KRCC is eclectic. The songs we sing, though we focus primarily on the most current, span many years, from contemporary to hymn, all great music! Our specific genre completely depends on the ones that God has raised up to lead us. Though right now, our music would most likely be classified as acoustic rock with a dash of folk, given both the blended nature of the musical gifts that God has given the musicians on the worship team and the many songs we sing, our sound, like our voices, comes from the overflow of the love that God has poured out to us. To quote one of the songs that we sing, a song called "Blessed Be Your Name" by Matt Redman, "Every blessing You pour out I'll turn back to praise."
"Sing for joy in the Lord, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
Sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings.
Sing to Him a new song;
Play skillfully with a shout of joy."
- Psalm 33:1-3
